Guyana is considered to be “The Land of Six People”, because they are a very diverse. The people of this very diverse nation is made up of mostly East Indian but also African, Chinese, Portuguese, Amerindian, and then English.

Guyana is a country that is on South American’s North Atlantic coast. Guyana is technically not apart of the Caribbean, but they are considered to be due to the nation’s culture. Guyana is a beautiful paradise; that is surrounded by dense rainforest, which makes it have a tropical climate and have wide variety of plant and animal life. It is one of the English-speaking countries in the Caribbean, with strong traditions, culture, music, and food. Guyana still has a lot of the British colonial feel to it with the buildings that they have and the design of them. The capital of Guyana is Georgetown. Guyana’s history can be dated back to 1499, when Alonso de Ojeda was on his first expedition that arrived from Spain at    the Essequibo River.

In Guyana the culture here is very diverse and colorful. When the colonial rulers ruled this island they left behind a lot of their culture that the Africans that were here adopted to them. The Indians that migrated over to Guyana brought with them a lot of their traditions that they had back home. The main thing that they had brought with them was their colorful clothing, which is still a big part of Guyana today. Of course the Britain and Indian weren’t the only influence on the culture that we see today in Guyana. The other ethnic groups such as the Chinese had also brought their culture with them when they came to Guyana.
